SERAMPORE OF HISTORY AND HERITAGE

Curator:

16-September-2022 to 30-September-2022

The history of Serampore has been recorded by many eminent historians and volumes have been written about its contribution in the making and shaping of India.
The historians capture it as the destination for pilgrims, as a prosperous river port, as the location for the rise and growth of formal education, as a hub for the jute and cotton mills and its influence too, in the early part of the 20th century, in the struggle for the independence.

Ganges Art Gallery has engaged in extensive research for producing a book on Serampore that will attempt to be a visual and text presentation on the town. This is slated for release at the end of the year. This exhibition offers a peek into that forthcoming book. It showcases visuals of the edifices and architectural splendour of the town and weaves the history of Serampore via them.
