In this show I want to represent those artists who have used this medium and executed their work in sculptural forms exploring the inherent qualities that the medium of ceramic offers. This exhibition showcases the combination of promising and renowned ceramists who have been working with this medium with meticulous attention and taking the art of ceramic to a new level altogether.
For the artist, the experience of making is distinctly sensoryand involves tactile experiences. The making process is rhythmical and pleasurable which retains itself till the last moment of the process. The finished ceramic sculptures contain a sense of energy and organic growth always referring to the origin as a memory. The softness of the clay during the forming process remains as an essential character in the finished form; the fluid motion of the clay at the moment of its creation is capturedand contained in the final solid structure. Its malleability is the advantage for this free-form process and its strength enables it to produce large-scale work.
In modern ceramic art, however, conceptual complexities and executional challenges have informed the aesthetics of ceramic sculpture. The artists in this show through their art works reveal two aspects clearly etched in their minds and works. One, they care for the process as much as they care for their thoughts and ideas. Two, each ceramic sculpture is not merely a finished product by itself but a proposal for a future work, for another possibility. Potentially, the works by these artists contain both past and future blended well when passed through fire.
