<font size="2"><b>Mrinal Mandal</b></font><br><br>With first class Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, Mrinal Mandal (b.1977) has held three solo shows :at the Alternative Art Gallery, Kolkata (2000), at Gallery Katayun, Kolkata (2005) and at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2008), apart from participating in several prestigious group shows both in India and overseas.&nbsp; Mrinal won the Govt. Art College Award for Painting (2000), the Gaganendranath Tagore memorial Award for the Best Pencil Work presented by the Indian Society of Oriental Art in 1999, the Gopal Ghose Memorial Scholarship in 1997 and the Govt. Art College Award for Pencil Work in 1996.&nbsp; He has collaborated with tribal artists (especially those involved with patachitra in Midnapur) at Naya Gram (2001-2005) and wrote his dissertation on their work.&nbsp; He is currently engaged in a site-specific installation project entitled ‘Roots’ at Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata, which analyzes the devastating impact of socio-political factors on ecology and is centred on recent events in his native Jhargram.&nbsp; He has also worked as an assistant art director with Shyam Benegal on the production of the feature film ‘Bose: The Forgotten Hero’.&nbsp; His works are in the collections of The Ministry of External Affairs of the Govt. of India, IOC Ltd, ABN Amro Bank, The Reserve Bank of India, Starlight group, RC Export Pvt. Ltd, Jadavpur University, Rashmi Group Ltd., Emami Chisel Art, Kolkata, and several well known private collections in India the UK, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Australia, Denmark and Japan.&nbsp; Over one hundred of his works are on display in various offices, guest houses and the Sangeet Research Academy of ITC Ltd. throughout India.&nbsp; He lives and works in Kolkata.<br>
